This is a nice a bit difficult to find cover of the
international sky train experiment which took place in 19th May 1935 in Cuba. A
sky train comprises a tow plane which pulls a few gliders along with it.
In this case, it pulled 2 gliders along with it.
This first international round trip flight was started from Havana in Cuba to Miami in USA.
The gliders were piloted by Jack O'Meara and Paul Dupont Jr carrying 48 pounds of mail.
A special Cuban airmail stamp was sold , issue was 35000 numbers.
Also attached is the news report which came along with it.
Its quite self explanatory and a good read.
However the Havana Miami flight was actually a return flight and bit more common than the actual Miami-Havana flight on May 14th, 1935
There was trouble from the beginning itself.
Due a ruling by US post offices mail could not be regularly carried by the fliers, though there was no problem with the May 19th return flight.
The second cover is one of the very rare covers ( 148 carried) from Miami to Havana by the actual first flight on a sky train. They were privately carried by the fliers in the flight of 14th.. Most of these were mailed at night to a local post office in Miami on May 13 . These covers were further thought to be carried back on the flight of 19th May but the Havana authorities refused. They used the stamp and design of their own as the earlier cover shown, and these covers were cut where the special stamps had been applied and the cachet was cancelled as " Nulo". I dont have this cover though I have some of the above covers, from Havana to Miami
