Willis Raft Post, Samoa

This cover was carried by the famous and maverick adventurer called William Willis on his raft named which departed Apia in Western Samoa on 22nd June 1964 and reached Sydney on 28th Sept 1964.
William Willis was 71 years at that time. A few years later, he tried to cross the Atlantic with another smaller raft. Nothing is known of him since then.

Capt Willis' raft was called Age Unlimited. There are several books written about his adventures and are a very good read. The adventures were very eventful and shows how strong mentally a person can be who at his age with very acute hernia conditions attempted such journeys.
