Cycle Branch P.O was started in the Panipat district of Haryana
on 7th January 1978. Gaining popularity this mobile post offices were a
hit among the villages of Risalu, Nimbari etc. To provide postal services
at the doorsteps, 60 branch post offices were opened on cycles and cycle

Many villages were linked with this mobile post office and an office was established on a bedstead ( charpai) at a pre decided place of the concerned village. Behind the bedstead, a board displayed rates and other postal information. A letter box was fixed to the bicycle. In fact the first such cycle post office was opened in a fair held at Kurukshetra in 1968
